She was born in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea. She grew up on the same place but they moved to Japan when she was 10. At the age of 14, she came back to Korea after being casted so she could be a trainee.
She initially auditioned on PlayD Entertainment as a singer, but the agency think that her deep and husky voice fits more perfectly in the field of rapping. Since then, she got trained as a rapper, but she amazingly improved her other skills as well (singing, dancing).
She debuted with CHRYSTAL under PlayD Entertainment at June 26, 2015. Together with her 12 co-members, they became the first self-producing idol group in the industry.
Yeonwoo always writes her own rap lyrics. She once produced her own mixtape track entitled “Black” and she have written the rap lyrics in Korean, Japanese and English.
She also produced and directed her first ever solo magazine “Grace”. She did the photoshoots in Italy, the same place where she did the filming for her mixtape track.
After their 6 year contract with PlayD, she and her groupmates decided to partways with their agency and not renew their contracts. They continued their journey as a group under LEAD Entertainment— an agency that they themselves have established.
She has a younger sister named Jeon Wonyeon. Netizens think they are identical twin sisters due to their quite identical birthnames, but Yeonwoo is actually years older than her sister.
In an interview, she said her favorite artist is always IU and she sees her as her role model. Her favorite song is IU’s “Through the Night”, and said she could even listen to the song on repeat every single day.
She is quite allergic to seafood, though she thinks that shrimps are delicious and she still tries to eat a little in some periods of time.
She has a poor eyesight. She tend to squint her eyes when she couldn’t see things clearly. She always wear glasses off stage, and wears contacts during filming, and stage performances.
Her ideal type is someone who is a good listener, someone who is very considerate of her feelings, is quite taller than her and someone who would love her for who she is.
